Mind behind the Vision: Dr. Anil Rana
Dr. Anil Rana was an accomplished educationist who, after earning his PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi, served as a professor at Kurukshetra University. However, after several years in academia, his attention turned to the pressing challenges in water and agriculture facing western Uttar Pradesh.
Driven by a deep sense of purpose, he left his prestigious position and returned to his birthplace, Meerut. There, he founded what would become the Janhit Foundation, dedicating himself to improving soil health and water conservation in the region. His vision was clear: to work alongside farmers and students to promote organic farming and sustainable water management, fostering a more resilient and sustainable way of life for local communities.
Under his leadership, the organization pioneered multiple innovative projects, earning the support of esteemed institutional donors and partners, including the Sir Ratan Tata Trust, Oxfam India, IGSSS, CAF India, the Ford Foundation, Coca-Cola India, and various national corporations—all united in the mission of regional betterment.
Dr. Rana’s personal philosophy is beautifully captured in his own words:
“To make my life's journey more meaningful, I chose the road less traveled. And when I looked back toward my goal, I saw a multitude of people walking alongside me, united in the same cause.”
Following his untimely passing in 2008, his wife stepped forward to lead the organization. She continues to honor his legacy, carrying forward Dr. Rana’s vision and name through every project the Janhit Foundation implements today.
