Spreading Water Literacy on Wheels in Noida District

Spreading Water Literacy on Wheels in Noida District’ of Uttar Pradesh is a unique project being undertaken by Janhit Foundation. This three year project, facilitated by Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) and funded by ADOBE India Systems Limited has been running successfully since August 2009.

Keeping in view the emerging water crisis and deterioration in water quality of NOIDA, Janhit Foundation has felt the need of educating the next generation on the importance of water conservation and thereby create a sustainable long-term solution to this growing problem. The project aims at raising awareness amongst school children on the importance of drinking water quality and better water governance. Towards the final stage i.e. third year of the project, ten most water deficient schools would be identified and water saving structures would be installed in them. It would also be Foundation’s endeavor to advocate for the inclusion of safe and good water conservation practices in the school’s future curriculum

Work Undertaken

Against this backdrop good work has been done in its initial phase. The various activities undertaken as a part of this project includes the following

Purchase, Modification and Designing of a mobile van (Tata Winger)

The van is equipped with GPRS system, LCD projector and also a laptop. It also has literature which has been printed for this particular project alongwith others on related issues and documentaries which would be screened during our visit to various schools. Most importantly, the van has a portable, easy to use water testing kit which would be used to help students learn about performing basic tests for analyzing water quality. The van has been beautifully designed with stickers and quotations, acknowledging our partners for this project i.e. CAF and Adobe. Colourful panels have been prepared which would serve as an important tool to create awareness amongst the students. These would be exhibited during our visits to schools.

Documentary Film

A documentary is being made. This film would cover all the three year’s activities of the project in detail.

Approaching schools in Noida

Various schools have been visited in NOIDA and Greater NOIDA. These schools have been briefed about the project. We have convinced them on the importance of the project and how the school can play a crucial role towards achieving the project objectives of this innovative project. During our visits, we have received wonderful response from the schools
