Water Conservation and Protection
Objectives: Provision of safe, sufficient and sustainable water resources for all.
We work to achieve this by :
- Continuing to research location and extent of water resource contamination.
- Identification of causes and sources of this contamination.
- Identification of impacts of contamination on human health and the environment.
- Lobbying government departments and other responsible bodies to take appropriate and timely action to remediate contamination.
- Promote the conservation of water resources by recharging natural water bodies through traditional methods such as ponds as well as rooftop rainwater harvesting
- Undertake awareness campaigns and training programmes on the subject of water conservation methods within local communities.
- Promote ownership and responsibility for water resources within local communities
Sustainable Agriculture through Organic Farming
Objectives: Restoring and protecting agricultural land, while simultaneously providing nutritious and healthy food sustainably, for current and future generations.
We work to achieve this by :
- Promoting the adoption of sustainable, organic farming practices.
- Work to reduce the reliance and usage of environmentally damaging agro-chemicals in farming practices in U.P
- Reduce and reverse soil degradation.
- Conduct awareness campaigns and training on organic farming methods through seminars, workshops and promotional literature.
- Strengthen the agricultural economy by creating a market and promoting certified organic produce. Resulting in an increase in agricultural productivity, household incomes and employment opportunities.
Child Rights
Objectives: To protect and promote the rights of children as enshrined in the international covenant of the rights of a child. Responding to the emergency needs of children in need of care and protection throughout Meerut district, enduring that there is an integrated effort between the government, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, bilateral agencies and the community in protecting the rights of children.
We work to achieve this by :
- Reaching out to children in need of care and protection by responding to emergencies on 1098 (a toll free helpline number)
- Also physically reaching out to children through informal education sessions and working groups in slum areas.
- Maintaining awareness on children’s rights issues within the community.
Environment Education
Objectives: Sustainable use of natural resources, to ensure that our environment does not pose a risk to human health and can sustain a rich and diverse eco-system for future generations to come.
We work to achieve this by :
- Use of the media, Public Interest Litigations (PILs) and other publicity methods to raise the profile of environmental pollution issues and demand appropriate action.
- Seminars, workshops and awareness campaigns.
Human Rights
Objectives: Empowerment of marginalized communities to improve their own environment and safeguard their human rights.
We work to achieve this by :
- Promotion of participatory decision making for local communities to regain ownership of their environment.
- Raising awareness regarding environmental degradation, pollution and resource management to the necessary authorities on behalf of the local communities.
