About Us

Janhit Foundation is an independent, non-profit NGO, actively engaged in the promotion of human welfare through environmental protection since 1998.

Our key areas of work include:

  • Groundwater quality protection for human health.
  • Provision of safe drinking water to marginalized communities.
  • Protection of river water quality for aquatic ecosystems.
  • Enhancement of available water resources through water conservation measures.
  • Promotion of sustainable agriculture by organic farming methods.
  • Environmental education and empowerment of local communities.
  • The emancipation of poverty through education and child rights for children of marginalized communities.

Janhit Foundation undertakes this work through scientific research, campaigns, advocacy and grass-root level community involvement.

As a public interest organization the Janhit Foundation focuses on strengthening local communities through their active participation in the decision making process to achieve sustainable development for the community as a whole. We believe that environmental degradation can only be addressed adequately if local people are empowered in decision making at all levels and have control over their natural resources.

To achieve our goals we work in partnership with government, non-governmental, national and international organisations on environmental and human rights issues.

Our Geographical Area of Work

Janhit Foundation operates from our head office in Meerut and our geographical reach covers the districts of Meerut, Muzaffarnagar, Saharanpur, Baghpat and Ghaziabad in Western Uttar Pradesh.

The organization also works in the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana, whilst we have in the past conducted some work in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Vision

  • To empower local communities to take action to preserve their environment and natural resources for themselves and future generations.
  • To achieve this though community participation in our projects and activities and ensuring local people are consulted throughout the process of development.
  • We strive for a sustainable future for mankind based on social justice and believe that this can only be achieved though the up-holding of all human rights and the rule of law.
  • Mission

    • Provision of safe, sufficient and sustainable water resources for all
    • Restoring and conserving agricultural land; providing sustainably produced nutritious and healthy food for both current and future generations.
    • Prevent and reduce the pollution of natural resources and promote their sustainable use; thus ensuring that our environment maintains its biodiversity and does not pose a risk to human health.
    • Empowerment of marginalized communities to safeguard their human rights and improve their local environment.
